Dr. Guilherme A. Barreto
Is a full professor at the Department of Teleinformatics Engineering of the Federal University of
Ceará, Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. He received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from this
university in 1995, and both the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the
University of São Paulo in 1998 and 2003, respectively. At the federal University of Ceará, Prof. Barreto coordinates the Center of Reference in Automation and Robotics (CENTAURO) which aims
at bridging the knowledge transfer gap between academia and industry. At CENTAURO, he leads
the Group of Advanced Machine Learning (GRAMA), whose members pursue a variety of research
topics, such as neural networks & computational intelligence, pattern recognition & machine
learning, nonlinear system identification, time series prediction, and intelligent robotics. More
recently, members of GRAMA have been collaborating extensively with outstanding research
groups in Portugal (FEUP), Spain (Univ. of Granada), Germany (Univ. of Bielefeld and Univ. of
Münster) and Finland (Aalto University). Prof. Barreto has been serving as reviewer for several
international journals (IEEE Transactions on neural Networks and Learning Systems, IEEE
Transactions on Cybernetics, Neural Networks, Neurocomputing, Neural Processing Letters,
Computers and Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Signal Processing and Control, and IEEE Sensors)
and has been a member of program committee of several international conferences (LARS'2013,
Robotica2013, Robots2013, Iberamia2012, WSOM2005‐20012, IbPRIA2012, IDEAL2012‐2013,
Nabic2011, among others). He is also serving as the editor‐in‐chief of the journal Learning &
Nonlinear Models (L&NLM) published by the Brazilian Computational Intelligence Society
(http://sbic.ct.ufrn.br/) and as an associate editor of the Springer's International Journal of
Machine Learning and Cybernetics (IJMLC).
